Close Shave
I have bought and used at least 4 different brands of electric shavers over the years. My latest one finally gave up so I decided to try this Panasonic for a change.

This razor is much better than most others I have tried. The main advantage is that it provides a much closer shave. I also like being able to use it wet or dry. Plus, cleaning it with liquid soap is easier and more efficient than trying to brush the heads clean. The only down side I can see is that the battery does not last quite as long as some other shavers. However, this is a minor inconvenience and not a problem.

I have read a few reviews saying they could not get a close shave or it cut their face. I have not had any of these problems. Yes, it does take time for your skin to adjust to a new razor. However, I had no irritation from day one. Plus, I am getting a very close shave. I thought that I would have some problems because of my fair skin and I have always had trouble getting all the hairs on my neck. But, I had no problems at all.

Therefore, I highly recommend this razor based on my personal experience.

Tempted To Shave Things I Shouldn't
I'm 53 with a history with Norelco and Remington. Neither inspired me to re-purchase their brand again and each time I went back to blades for a time. This time it's different. I've had this Panasonic since Christmas ... using it every day for about 7 weeks now. I wanted to give it a fair test before writing this review.
1. I had no trouble getting used to it. It was comfortable from Day 1.
2. The noise level is significantly lower than my previous electric shavers, though quite a bit louder than my blades except for my weeping and wailing when I cut myself.
3. The battery lasts at least 5 days without a re-charge or slowing down even a little. I've never used it longer than that without recharging so I don't know how long it will go.
4. Shaving dry is good ... I have to cover some spots 2 or 3 times to get a clean shave, but I consider that normal for an electric and the end result is comfortable and smooth.
5. Shaving wet is where this razor really shines. There's a slip of paper Panasonic puts in on how to clean the razor using hand soap and running water. Not only is this amazingly simple, I use it as a shaving technique as well and this is where the title of my review comes from. It works so well, I don't want to stop with my face, I just want to keep shaving shoulders, arms, etc. it feels sooooo good. I'll just leave it at that.
Those are the issues that are important to me in an electric razor. I plan on maintaining and replacing this one with another Panasonic when the time comes.

Smooth shave, battery lasts a week
This is my second ES8043. The motor delivers as close a shave as you like. Cleans easily. Battery lasts a week before charging, assuming a shave of 5-10 mins. per day. Blades and foil probably could go 2 years before replacement, but I find that you will notice an improvement in your shave if you replace after 1 year. Overall, I have been quite pleased with this product.

Bald Head Shavers
If you shave your head don't waste your time or money with this shaver. It does not give you a close shave and cuts other parts of your head unevenly. Had to go back over spots multiple times.

Do not waste your money
I bought this shaver in Aug 09 after reading the reviews on Amazon. This shaver will only give you a good shave if you spend a lot of time going over problem areas (neck and chin for me). If you need a quick and clean shave, you will not get one with this razor. Most importantly, you can NOT use the shaver while it is being charged. You have to wait for it to charge up before you can turn the darn thing on! Extremely inconvenient if you lose the charge in the middle of a morning shave! The replacement cutter and foil cost about 75% of the cost of a brand new shaver! Outrageous! Also comes with the world's cheapest travel pouch and cleaning brush. In Januray 2010 (the day before I am writing this review) the battery malfunctioned and only holds the charge for three or four shaves! Called the factory and they said "send the shaver in at your expense, and we will replace it in two weeks!" This means I have to go buy another one to use while I wait for service. You can be sure it won't be a Panasonic!

Very Close Shave
Closest shave I've received from an electric. It takes a little longer to shave with this model, but far more effective than Braun or Norelco.

EVEN BETTER THAN I EXPECTED
HAVING NEVER OWNED AN ELECTRIC RAZOR, I WAS SKEPTICAL BUT NEEDED SOMETHING TO SHAVE MY HEAD CLEAN. MUCH TO MY AMAZEMENT, THIS RAZOR MORE THAN DOES THE JOB. IT REALLY IS OUTSTANDING RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. I SEE NO NEED FOR THE CLEANING RESEVOIR AS THE RAZOR ITSELF CLEANS SO EASILY WITH A LITTLE SOAP AND HOT WATER. THE PRODUCT IS OUTSTANDING!

Great trimmer, but the cleaning system could be improved.
The trimmer itself is great. It's just about as smooth as a regular blade, and it doesn't cut or irritate the softer skin on my neck. It's nice that it can be used in the shower, though I mainly just use it in my car. The foil seems to last forever, as I've yet to notice it wearing down.

My only complaint is the cleaning system. It doesn't seem to do anything to the razor, and the water inside it starts to stink fairly quickly, causing the razor itself to stink after cleaning. Maybe I got a bad cleaning cartridge. However, since this is a wet-dry razor, I just run it under some hot water whenever it needs it.

BEST EVER
I am old enough (71) to have gone through many electric razors and this is the best I've yet found.

The razor works so well that, even with a heavy beard, I only have to shave every four or five days! (In between I just look modern-chic.)

The next best was a Norelco, but the problem with that razor is that if you have a beard or mustache you will constantly be shaving off part of it - it just takes everything. The fact that I can shave into the beard with the regular heads without nicking makes this Panasonic ideal. The pop-out trimmer works excellently, also.

It is convenient that the blades need replacement only every two years, and the outer foil, equipped with included long-hair clipper, lasts a year. Other brands I've tried cut that time in half.

In short, the parts (accessories) aren't cheap, but they last twice as long. I've been using this razor for a year and it shaves as well now as it did when it was new.

The Vortex cleaning system really keeps the entire head assembly super clean (although I had to clean the part where the head rests once). The cartridges can be expensive if you need to shave every day, but the razor can be well cleaned in hot water, so the Vortex need not be used after every shave. The way I use it, I get fifteen cleanings before I have to change the cleaning cartridge.

It can be removed from the holder and used any time, as long as there is a charge left-in an emergency, the cord can be used.

P.S. You do have to learn how to use an electric shaver! The alternative is the Firm of Nicks & Cuts.

I used the ES8077 for a couple of years, then bought an ES8228 last December. They were both OK. Shaving with a Panasonic Linear model is definitely comfortable. They're also very convenient to clean, being water-resistant. However, given my rough beard and preference for the convenience of dry-shaving, it took far too long to get a decent shave and even then, substantial stubble remained. I recently switched to a Braun Series 7 and the shave is *much* closer and *much* faster.

Great razor
razor fits nicely in my hand; angle of cutting heads works well; works best with shaving lather, but not necessary day to day. No complaints.

Great Shaver
My husband just wanted a shaver, nothing expensive so I ordered this one because it looked so nice. Boy, he was surprised that it shaved like a more expensive one. It works VERY well, cleans so easily, you can use it in the shower, comes with recharger. Great product and the price is exceptional.

As good as my Braun
I have had only Braun shavers for the past 15 or so years and finally dropped my last one on the concrete floor in the garage. With the prospect spending over 0 for a similar Braun unit, I started searching Amazon and came across this model. The reviews seemed very positive so I decided to give it a try. It is very basic compared to my old Braun (no pivoting head, can't use it while plugged in) but other than that it shaves just as well. I also like being able to rinse it under the tap to get out all the beard trimmings. I priced out replacement blades and screen and was a bit surprised to see the price was about the same as buying the whole unit again. When the time comes to replace those parts I will just buy another shaver.

This is a very good shaver that proves you don't have to pay 0 or more to get a good shave.

Perfect
My friend had been looking for a replacement for her perfect wet/dry shaver. Department stores told her they no longer carry the shaver. I decided I would do a search and I found this. She is delighted, turns out to be the exact same shaver she has! Another positive fact, this shaver is perfect for women as well as men.

Panasonic Wet/Dry Shaver
The Panasonic ES402 is a fantastic shaver for the price. It offers a smooth shave with no irretation. It takes a couple shaves for the razor and the face to adapt, but after that it is perfect. The only draw back is the charging system. The razor sits on top of the charger when it is plugged in. You must have a good receptical or you will find your razor on the floor.

The Best Elec. Razor!!
I bought this razor for my husband for Christmas. He has always had problems getting a close shave with elec. razors and has been on the search for a really GOOD one forever.
He is THRILLED with this razor. He says it's the BEST and he esp. likes the self-cleaning
feature. I recommend this item highly.

My Husband does not have thick/coarse hair, he probably could never grow a "Santa" beard but he does have to shave on a regular basis. Probably about 10 years ago he tried an electric razor and looked like he was attacked by an angry Cat, that went back to the store.

From that time on he had only ever used a regular manual razor and MOST of the time he was bleeding all over his neck & several places on his face & the irritation would last for days making the next shave painful. It didn't matter how careful he was, his skin was just sensitive to shaving.

He finally decided to give an electric razor a try again because he was always in such a hurry in the mornings(he LOVES the snooze button a little too much) After much research by me, I showed him a few I thought would work best based on reviews, price & features. We both liked this one best & ordered it.

Of course he had to try it out right away & much to both our amazement he did NOT have a single nick & his face was smooth. He uses this...in a very big Hurry normally, sometimes everyday or every other day & MOST of the time he doesn't have any irritation or nicks. Very rarely does he have irritation or nicks.

And it really is a VERY close shave, I'm never pushing him away telling him his stubble is scratching me, his face is always smooth.

If you have sensitive skin, always getting nicks or irritation, give this razor a try. My husband LOVES it!! He has never used it wet yet because it does such a good job dry.

Shaves good but very short lived foil
I got good shaving results for maybe a month or two of sporadic shavings (and I'm not that hairy, and my hair is relatively thin). Then I noticed the results weren't so good anymore, and I started getting irritation. Another 1-2 months later it shaved like your regular 30-dollar Braun and irritation abounded. I had to order blades and foil replacement, and they cost around 40 dollars. The self-cleaning function of this shaver is more of an annoying gimmick than useful feature - you better wash the shaver yourself than listen to 2 hours of loud vacuum-like sound coming from your bathroom. And you have to buy detergent regularly too (God knows where and for how much).

Ladies - Take Note!
So this is a razor supposedly for men. But like many women I like to use an electric razor - and ones "made for women" just never deliver what I'm looking for. Legs and underarms that are shaved everyday - just like most men shave their face every day - need some TLC. After spending a great deal of money over the years on "women's" electric shavers I decided that if I am to get what I'm looking for then I have to look at where the technology and effort is at - and that's with "men's" razors. After lots of research I decided upon the Panasonic ES8228S for a variety of reasons - the fact that I can use it in the shower was my first point of consideration, followed by the nanotech sharp blades and the motor speed. And I have not been disapointed! In fact, this is the THE BEST electric razor I have ever used, and now wish that I had never fallen for the "women's" razor scheme. Those things are awful compared to this. My legs and underarms have never been happier - or smoother! I bought my husband a Panasonic several (8+) years ago and it's still going strong and he's always been very satisfied with its shave. Now there are 2 fans in the family.

Great Shaver!
I'm loving this razor! I've had Brauns before and have been using Mach III and Edge gel for the last year. Bought a Norelco at Costco and took it back after 1 try. Felt cheap and not very high rpm. It doesn't lose its charge until after a week and I like the fact that the razor on day 7 is as fast as on day 1. It doesn't lose any speed by unplugging it either. With my Brauns, you could hear the rpm loss as you unplugged it from the wall, so I always was tethered to the sink. Not with this one.
Got this one and absolutely get the best shave I've had. Doesn't leave any strays on my neck or anywhere. I'm also a fan of Aubrey Organics' products and use the North Woods face scrub first, then shave with their North Woods shave cream. It's not a gel so it won't muck it up. Just run a little water in the shaver and it foams it up. Makes the chore of shaving a much better experience.

Product was defective
Product arrived and was defective even after using it is barely shaved any hair at all.
Probably defective blades or something. I mean it didn't cut at all. I looked to make sure there were blades inside it. There were. Overall this felt very cheaply made with the part that holds the foil feeling very flimsy. I had bought this for a travel razor since my Braun 9595 needs that blue flammable liquid and you can't take that on a plane. I guess I'll stick with Braun. I never shave wet, takes too much time and I often have to shave twice a day as it is.

Great shaver. You won't be disappointed
This is a great shaver. I owned a Panasonic linear motor shaver 5 years ago, then switched to Norelco and now switched back to Panasonic. I love the ease of shave, floating heads, and almost everything about this shaver - except the trimmer, which is kinda small. Overall great product and 100% worth the money.

Great Shaver
I've gone through several shavers from different brands. This one works as well as a shaver twice the price. I don't miss having to buy the cleaning fluid for the Braun units I owned. Only nits - This shaver cannot be used while it is charging. So if you forget to charge it and it quits mid-shave, you'll have to plug it in and wait about 15 minutes while you walk around with half a beard! My other nit is that battery life doesn't seem as long as the Brauns and Remington's I've used. But otherwise, it does the job.

Great shaver, stopped an irritation problem
I was using a Norelco shaver with 3 heads for about 8 years. I started to develop severe irritation on my face and that's when I realized it was time for a new shaver. Since I shave pretty much every day, I figured a shaver is a good item to invest a little money in so i purchased this one. I also liked the fact that I could shave wet because I wanted to in order to eliminate the irritation my face had from the Norelco dry process. So I purchased this and some Neutrogena Men Skin Clearing Shave Cream - 5.1 fl oz and although it didn't help at first, it ended up not only completely clearing my skin, but I also get a much better shave.

The bottom-line difference is that this product's motor is much stronger than the Norelco and therefore it does not slow down when it is shaving longer hair or hits a thick patch. It's quite amazing to watch this thing shave a thick beard without even slowing at all actually.

My only complaint is that I seem to get cut more by this thing but that may be a technique thing and something I need to get used to. It's probably just because the shaver is so much stronger.
